\"fossil-of-the-day-logo\"Es gibt Auszeichnungen, die von den Preistr\u00e4gern nicht wirklich gerne entgegengenommen werden. Die Gr\u00fcne Tomate<\/a> ist so einer, oder Der Goldene Windbeutel<\/a> f\u00fcr die dreisteste Werbel\u00fcge. Ebenfalls eher unbeliebt bei den \u201eGewinnern\u201c d\u00fcrfte der Fossil of the Day-Award<\/strong><\/a> sein, der bereits seit 1999 vom Climate Action Network<\/strong><\/a> vergeben wird, und sich besonders um S\u00fcnden in der Klima- und Umweltpolitik k\u00fcmmert bzw. um die Regierungen, die die UN-Klimaschutzverhandlungen am st\u00e4rksten behindern. Ende letzten Jahres durfte sich beispielsweise Angela Merkel \u00fcber den Preis freuen (als \u201eAnerkennung\u201c f\u00fcr ihr Umkippen in der Klimapolitik), George W. Bush geh\u00f6rte ebenfalls schon zu den Gewinnern (ihm geb\u00fchrt der Spezialpreis \u201eFossil of the century\u201d<\/strong>), und zuletzt traf der \u201eFossil of the Year-Award\u201c Ende Dezember Kanada f\u00fcr seine r\u00fcckst\u00e4ndige Haltung auf der Kopenhagener Klimakonferenz:<\/p>\n

\u201cFossil of the Year goes to CANADA, for bringing a totally unacceptable position into Copenhagen and refusing to strengthen it one bit. Canada\u2019s 2020 target is among the worst in the industrialized world, and leaked cabinet documents revealed that the governments is contemplating a cap-and-trade plan so weak that it would put even that target out of reach.<\/p>\n

\u201cCanada has made zero progress here on financing, offering nothing for the short term or the long term beyond vague platitudes. And in last night\u2019s high-level segment, Canada\u2019s environment minister gave a speech so lame that it didn\u2019t include a single target, number or reference to the science.<\/p>\n

\u201cCanada\u2019s performance here in Copenhagen builds on two years of delay, obstruction and total inaction. This government thinks there\u2019s a choice between environment and economy, and for them, tar sands beats climate every time. Canada\u2019s emissions are headed nowhere but up. For all this and more, we name Canada the Colossal Fossil.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
